About Department
The Department of Marathi Language and Literature is one of the foremost departments, functioning since 1923, when the College was established. Initially, Marathi and Sanskrit studies were combined in the department but later Sanskrit branched out as an independent entity. The department was enriched by great scholars of the language who served as teachers from time to time. The illustrious role includes Marathi Critic Dr. M. G. Deshmukh, Story Writer Prof. Bhagwantrao Deshmukh, Sahitya Akadami awarded Dr. G. M. Pawar, famous Critic Sudhir Rasal, Prof. Vasant Kumbhojkar, Dr. Bapuji Sankpal, Critic Balkrishna Kavthekar, Dr. Ramesh Andhare, and Prof. M. N. Sarpatwar, Dr. Sunita Sule, Dr Chandrajyoti Mulye-Bhandari, Dr.Janardhan Katkar. Presently, the department is progressing in light of glorious legacy under the guidance of Dr. Eknath Phutane, ably supported by Shri. Samadhan Satav.
